After a fascinating season so far with a host of twists and turns in both title contests, Harry King, Will Burns and Tom Hibbert will battle it out for Pro class honours this weekend, while Colin White, Nathan Heathcote and Jack Oliphant are in the hunt for the Am class spoils.
A stunning double victory at Silverstone last weekend moved King (Elite Motorsport) back to the top of the championship standings. The Ginetta Junior graduate has starred this season with nine race wins so far and the last three pole positions in a row.
Burns (Rob Boston Racing) is only seven points behind though, with a great campaign producing 14 podium finishes, more than anyone else. He’s been in a title decider before and after narrowly missing out on the 2016 crown, he’s even more determined for success this time around.
Nipping at the heels of the top two and ready to capitalise on any mistakes is Hibbert (Triple M Motorsport). A fourth win of the season last time out has put him 52 points off the top of the standings and he’ll be on maximum attack this weekend to try and overturn the deficit.
In the Am class, White (CWS Motorsport) is the driver to beat as he aims to secure a third class title. The Ginetta stalwart has experience on his side with 90 Am podium finishes under his belt, as well as a formidable record on the Brands Hatch GP circuit with 10 wins in the last 12 races here.
There are only nine points in it at the top of the standings though, as Heathcote (Century Motorsport) aims to end a superb maiden campaign with title glory. The former British Rallycross champion has starred on his transition to circuit racing with seven class victories so far.
While Oliphant (Century Motorsport) comes in as a mathematical contender, he’s going to need a huge points swing to emerge as champion. His focus is therefore likely to be on continuing his great current run of form, having taken his first two class wins at Silverstone.
Outside of the title battles, there’s a number of drivers to watch across both classes. In the Pro entry, Carlito Miracco (Privateer) has impressed with regular podium finishes recently, while Reece Somerfield (Elite Motorsport) was a race-winner at Brands Hatch back in the season opener.
Tom Emson (Elite Motorsport) also won that weekend, albeit in the Ginetta Juniors. He made the step up the Ginetta ladder last time out and is one to watch at his local circuit – fellow Kent racers Simon Rudd (Rob Boston Racing) and Tom Barley (Team HARD) will also want to impress this weekend.
Ginetta Junior graduate Fin Green (Rob Boston Racing) is determined to end the year on a high, Team Hard duo Sam Randon and Kris Prosser make their second outings of the year, while James Blake-Baldwin (AK Motorsport) will enjoy his maiden appearance this weekend.
In the Am class, James Kell (Rob Boston Racing) will be aiming to bounce back from a tough Silverstone weekend and add to his eight podium finishes so far. Darron Lewis (Team Hard) meanwhile is one to watch as a two-time class race-winner earlier in the season.
Carl Garnett (AK Motorsport) heads into the weekend in positive spirits after a seasons’ best double podium weekend at Silverstone, while Adam Lucas (Privateer), Chris Ingram (HHC Motorsport) and Peter Bassill (Century Motorsport) complete the class entry.
