Preview: 2024 Ginetta GT Championship – Donington Park

Champions could be crowned this weekend as Mckenzie Douglass and Nick White carry healthy class points leads into the penultimate round of the 2024 Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT Championship at Donington Park.

Douglass (Fox Motorsport) has cemented his status as the driver to beat in the PRO class with a stunning recent run of results, which the Welshman started with a perfect hat-trick of wins on the championship’s first visit to Donington Park back in May.

Treble victories have followed in each of the last two events at Anglesey and Snetterton. This dominant streak extends his points lead to 87. That means he has a mathematical chance of securing the title this weekend. Though, he will need to at least outscore his closest rival to take the overall victory.

That driver is Luke Garlick (Xentek Motorsport), who hasn’t given up hope yet on becoming a back-to-back Ginetta champion. The 2023 GT5 Challenge victor has picked up two wins so far. He impressively finished off the podium in only three races.

The AM title picture is clearer meanwhile, with White (Raceway Motorsport) holding a large championship lead. Having established himself as the dominant force in the class from the off, he’s currently on a remarkable run of 14 consecutive race victories.

They come as part of a 100% podium record for the campaign. This has helped him build up a lead of over 200 points at this stage. The reigning GT Academy champion therefore needs just a single race finish this weekend to secure a second consecutive Ginetta drivers’ title.

White’s Raceway Motorsport team-mate Peter Mangion is the only driver that could potentially secure the title instead. Since joining the grid at Silverstone back in April, he’s made six visits to the class podium. He will be targeting a maiden victory before seasons’ end.

In the PRO ranks, Conner Garlick (Xentek Motorsport) is one to watch as he aims to replicate his race-winning performance in the GT Championship at Donington Park last season. He’s picked up eight podium finishes this year, including a victory at Silverstone.

Harry Mangion (Raceway Motorsport) meanwhile is targeting his first win in the championship. The 2021 Ginetta GT5 Challenge Am champion is on a great run of current form. He has claimed four podium finishes in the last seven races.

Alex Toth-Jones (SVG Motorsport) makes his third appearance of the season full of confidence. He scored his maiden podium finish in the championship at Snetterton. He’s part of a PRO class grid that also includes championship debutant Joshua Mclean (Pace Performance).

Callum Noble (Xentek Motorsport) and Gracie Mitchell (MDD Racing) are competitive additions to the AM category. Each had previously finished on the podium at Anglesey and Donington Park respectively. Another newcomer this weekend is Paolo Buccini with SVG Motorsport.
