It will be a momentous weekend for the GT4 SuperCup in Kent, with the opening race on Saturday afternoon being the 250th since the championship’s introduction back in 2011. Find out more about that milestone here: https://www.ginetta.com/news/g…
Adam Smalley (Elite Motorsport) kicked off his 2021 title challenge with a superb performance at Snetterton. He converted a dominant pole position into two lights-to-flag race wins, though a race three retirement did end his weekend on a sour note.
That opened the door for Tom Hibbert (Rob Boston Racing) to leave Norfolk as the early championship leader, having scored himself a hat-trick of second place finishes. This is set to be a landmark weekend for Hibbert, as he tackles his 100 race start in the GT4 SuperCup.
The other Snetterton race-winner was Josh Rattican (Elite Motorsport), with the Ginetta Junior graduate leading home the reverse grid finale on his debut. Team-mate Tom Emson joined him on the podium for his first overall top three, having been an 11-time class winner in Pro Am last year.
2019 front-runner Carlito Miracco (Preptech UK) marked his return to the series after a year away with a great podium finish too, whilst James Blake-Baldwin (AK Motorsport) and Joe Marshall (Team HARD) opened their accounts with fourth place results.
Steve Roberts (Rob Boston Racing) and Blake Angliss (Century Motorsport were two other rookies to impress at Snetterton with top six finishes. At the other end of the experience spectrum is Reece Somerfield (Breakell Racing), who is tackling his tenth consecutive season in the championship.
The competitive Pro class field also includes former MG Trophy front-runner Andy Spencer, 2018 Fun Cup Endurance champion Henry Dawes (both Century Motorsport), ex-MINI Challenge racer Luke Reade (Rob Boston Racing) and Formula Ford 1600 graduate Seb Melrose (Team HARD).
In Pro Am, reigning class champion Colin White got the next chapter of his Ginetta story underway with the first two wins of the season. Those results mean White now has no less than 62 class victories to his name across more than 200 race starts.
It is Carl Garrnett (AK Motorsport) however who has the honour of coming to Brands Hatch as the Pro Am points leader. The reigning Am class vice-champion twice lost a potential race win on the final lap of the race, but picked up three podium finishes to get the early advantage.
Luke Warr (Race Car Consultants) and Garry Townsend (AK Motorsport) both produced strong performances on their debuts at Snetterton, while an exciting returnee to the grid this weekend comes in the form of 2020 Am class champion Stewart Lines (Rob Boston Racing).
