Sons of Martin Short, owner of the world renowned Rollcentre Racing team, Morgan and Marcus will be joining the Ginetta GT Championship grid this weekend at Snetterton.
Both Morgan and Marcus started racing in a Rover 216 GTI that Martin built over 30 years ago. They both had great success in this car racing in the MG Car Club.
Marcus had a one off in GB4 in 2022 before joining his brother Morgan in the CSCC Slick Series. The pair won every race bar one in a historic Mosler MT900. For 2023 they took on the GT Cup in the Mosler Super GT, with 670 bhp, and won outright on the Brands GP circuit beating many GT3 cars in the 13 year old car run by their father.
Morgan took part in a British GT round at Brands Hatch, teaming up with Thomas Holland in the Ginetta G56 GT4 to score points, and also did a one off in GT Cup in a Lamborghini Super Trofeo, setting pole and securing a win at Oulton Park.
They’ll come into the weekend as the second brother pairing on the grid, but with the confidence of having won three races at the track last year in the Rollcentre Mosler.
Ginetta Motorsport Director Mike Simpson said,
“We have a long history with Martin, for a time the Mosler was a competitor of the Ginetta G50Z and G55 GT3. We enjoyed many battles in British GT and Britcar with the Mosler securing the British Gt Championship in 2003. Martin also ran a Ginetta for Lawrence Tomlinson and myself in the Silverstone Britcar 24 hours, and occasionally raced a Ginetta himself.
Morgan and Marcus have grown up in the sport. However, Martin did a good job at keeping them out of a racing seat until very recently. They are both exceptional SIM racers and have had experiences in a variety of cars.
Their on track experience will be less than the many of the drivers on the grid. But, I have no doubt they will put on a great show and showcase their talent.”
Martin Short said “We are absolutely delighted to be back with Ginetta again after many many years, but now with my sons doing the racing. The lads are absolutely thrilled at this opportunity. Many thanks to Mike Simpson and Lawrence Tomlinson for making this last minute opportunity come together”
Morgan Short said “I’m really looking forward to racing in the Ginetta GT Championship at Snetterton this weekend. This is our first opportunity to test ourselves in a one-make championship in modern machinery and tough competition. It’s great to have my second race weekend in a Ginetta after my British GT debut last year. I saw first-hand the professionalism, competitiveness, and hard work by the brand. Massive thanks to Ginetta, Lawrence, and Mike for helping get this opportunity together – we’re ready to take on the challenge!”
Marcus Short said “I am very excited to be racing in the Ginetta GT Championship this weekend at Snetterton. This will be my first time racing a modern GT car. I can’t wait to get started, especially in a very competitive and professional race series. Huge thank you to Lawrence and Mike for making this great opportunity possible.”
You can watch all three races live this weekend on the Ginetta YouTube Channel.
