Preview: 2023 Ginetta GT Academy – Brands Hatch GP

Only two points split Nick White and Ravi Ramyead at the top of the Ginetta GT Academy
championship standings as their captivating title duel rolls on to Brands Hatch GP circuit this weekend for the
penultimate meeting of the season.

A phenomenal campaign from White (Raceway Motorsport) and Ramyead (Century Motorsport)
have seen them share 19 of the 20 race wins on offer so far this season, with a stunning tally of 37
class podium finishes between them.

White moved to the top of the standings with double win at Snetterton in late June and remains at
the top of the standings, however his advantage was reduced last time out at Cadwell Park as
Ramyead hit back with a double victory of his own.

Reigning rookie class champion Ramyead has more race wins to his name so far with 11 to White’s
eight, however the latter has had a more consistent campaign having impressively finished in the
class top three in every race to date. It’s all to play for between the two ahead of this weekend’s
action.

The only other driver to record a race win this season has been Jon Kearney (Raceway Motorsport),
who tasted the winners’ champagne at Snetterton for his first overall podium finish in the series.
After missing the Cadwell Park event, he’s back this weekend to try and add to his podium tally.
Mackenzie Walker (Assetto Racing) has been the most consistent challenger to the top two this
season, accumulating a total of ten podium finishes to date. With a best result of second place
coming on three occasions, he’s firmly knocking on the door of a maiden race win.

Thomas Shelley (Century Motorsport) and Marc Elman (SVG Motorsport) have been regular
presences at the sharp end of the field, each picking up some GTA class podium finishes. They are
locked in a close battle for fourth in the drivers’ standings, with just six points between them.
Paul Livesey (MDD Racing) and Phil McGarty (Xentek Motorsport) have both impressed during their
first seasons’ driving a Ginetta G56 GTA, while making an exciting one-off return to the grid is 2021
podium-finisher Julian Wantling (Assetto Racing). Ed Acres (Century Motorsport) is back too after
missing the last couple of rounds, having finished on the GTA podium four times this year.

In the dedicated rookie class for drivers starting their motorsport careers, Matt Shaw has been a
revelation. The former professional footballer has accumulated 14 podium finishes including 11
wins, all while fighting at the front of the field and scoring a best overall finish of second at Cadwell
Park.

Battle for second

The battle for second in the class standings is coming down to a battle of three sisters. Amy, Emma
and Lucy Tomlinson are separated by just 20 points, with Amy leading the way with nine podium
finishes, whilst Emma is a three-time race-winner. The class entry is completed by fellow female
talent and multiple podium finisher Charlotte Lowe and a new recruit to the rookie class in Max
Ratel, son of SRO Motorsports Group founder and CEO Stéphane Ratel.
