There have been two big changes for the GRDC over the extended off season. Firstly, the series will be sharing the track with its big brother, the Ginetta G40 Cup. Together they have a combined grid of over 30 cars that is sure to produce thrilling racing throughout the field.
Secondly, the series will run to a two-class structure for the first time. The ‘rookie’ class continues the GRDC’s traditional all-inclusive package for drivers making their racing debuts, while a second category allows drivers of any experience level to continue their personal development in the series.
The new class features two drivers with previous Ginetta experience. Stephen Docker (Raceway Motorsport) enjoyed a 100% podium record in the 2018 GRDC and Graeme Bishopp (SVG Motorsport) has previously raced in GRDC and the G40 Cup. Brendan Maude (Privateer) meanwhile enters the class as a racing novice.
Fourteen drivers will be starting their car racing journeys in the rookie class this season, with a diverse group of entrants including trackday enthusiasts looking to get their competitive fix and motorsport fans realising their childhood dreams of going racing.
The leading rookies from 2018 and 2019, James Crawshaw and Michael Kidson, both entered the series as winners of the coveted want2race scholarship. Following in their footsteps as the latest recipient of a fully-funded season in the GRDC is Brenden Haffner.
Amongst those on the entry list alongside him are former karter Rupert Laslett, Londoner John Wyatt, university students Thomas Holland and Guillaume Le Meur, business owner Jeremy Sussex and Jersey-based racer Anthony Underwood-Whitney.
