The West Sussex-based outfit have been an established front-running team in one-make Ginetta competition since joining the ranks in 2016, and for the upcoming campaign they will welcome Barclay to their line-up for a third consecutive season.
After finishing fourth in the G40 Cup in 2018, he was back in the series last year and stormed to a hat-trick of wins on the opening weekend at Oulton Park. Two more podium finishes followed, before a one-off outing in the GT5 Challenge season finale yielded a best result of seventh.
McKean meanwhile will make his car-racing debut this year, with the British born racer travelling from Kenya for each of the meetings. The 16 year old has won multiple karting titles in Kenya in recent seasons, including the Menengai Club Karting Championship last year.
The 16 year old is managed by two-time Ginetta GT5 Challenge champion James Kellett, who will be taking on an expanded role within the SVG Motorsport squad this year, overseeing the GT5 squad and driver coaching both Barclay and McKean.
Andy Johnson, team owner: “We’re delighted to be returning to the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge paddock full-time again in 2020, and we’re excited to see what both Alistair [Barclay] and Rory [McKean] can achieve this year.
“Alistair is a fantastic character to have around the team, and a very quick driver too. After an impressive 2019 season, he is determined to enjoy more great results this year and with a pre-season testing programme scheduled, we’re confident of hitting the ground running.
“Rory is showing great commitment to his racing by flying in from Africa for each of the race weekends. With it being his first ever season of competition, we’re naturally treating it as a learning year, but hope he can work his way up the grid as the season progresses.”
Packed grids and close racing makes the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge a popular entry-level championship for many aspiring GT racers. In 2020, the series will compete across both British GT and British Touring Car Championship weekends, with three outings on each support bill.
