After winning back-to-back G40 Cup championships with Tom Golding and Chris Salkeld, Assetto Motorsport’s quest to make it three titles in a row will come with three championship returnees and a talented graduate from the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club.
Former G20 Challenge and GT4 SuperCup racer Dawson brings a wealth of experience to the grid as he enters his first full G40 Cup campaign. Two appearances last season including a standout second place result at Silverstone and top five finishes in all five races he contested.
Wantling and Grimwood are both preparing for their second G40 Cup campaigns, having made their racing debuts in the 2018 GRDC. Both were front-runners in the Chairmans Cup last year, with Wantling picking up four class podium finishes to Grimwood’s two.
Following the same path meanwhile is Sansom, who competed in GRDC last season and starred with four podium finishes including a double victory at Snetterton. He went on to make his G40 Cup debut during the Donington Park season finale, taking a best result of 15th.
Jim Edwards, team manager: “Assetto Motorsport have enjoyed a lot of success within the Ginetta G40 Cup during the last two years and we are keen to continue this trend during 2020. With Giles, Mark, Robin and Julian, we have a driver line-up we’re really excited about.
“We are confident that we have drivers that can compete for both overall race wins and success in the Chairmans Cup. It’s incredibly difficult to win a championship but we will be working hard to utilise our experience to provide the best platform for our drivers to succeed and enjoy themselves once again.”
The Ginetta G40 Cup is an ideal platform for drivers who have recently discarded their ‘novice’ plates to learn the ropes in a packed grid full of drivers of similar ability and experience. Popular with graduates from the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club (GRDC), the series races in support of British GT.
