A truly dominant display last time out at Brands Hatch has made Golding (CTS Motorsport) firmly the man to beat as he targets his second title in the series. Three wins in Kent continued his 100% podium record for the season so far, which has put him 91 points clear at the top.
Giles Dawson (Assetto Motorsport) went toe-to-toe with Golding over the first two meetings of the season and picked up three race wins of his own. A couple of retirements have lost him ground though, so he’ll be determined to hit back this weekend at a circuit he won at last month.
Golding’s closest challenger last time out was Owen Hizzey (SVG Motorsport), who scooped up a trio of podium finishes to close the gap on Dawson for second in the points. In his first season of Ginetta racing, the teenage talent is now on a run of six consecutive podium finishes.
Only four points adrift of Hizzey in the standings meanwhile is Ignazio Zanon (Raceway Motorsport), who is the only driver bar Golding to finish each race within the class top five. He has three podiums to his name, while team-mate Paolo Scripo secured his maiden top three last time out.
Two drivers who have shown bursts of tremendous speed but have seen luck against them at points this season are Chris White (Raceway Motorsport) and Mark Sansom (Assetto Motorsport), while two new additions to the grid this weekend are CTS Motorsport duo Adam Croft and Jon Curry.
The Chairmans Cup for drivers aged 45 and over has seen a host of different drivers win races so far, but with each missing at least one round, it’s the ever present Mark Lee (SVG Motorsport) who leads the standings courtesy of a great run of six podium finishes in the nine races to date.
It’s set to be an ultra-competitive weekend in the class as two of the race-winners return to the grid. Reigning class champion Roy Alderslade (Raceway Motorsport) and Robin Grimwood (Assetto Motorsport) each took a victory on the first visit to Donington Park.
Gary Wager (SF Racing) enjoyed a return to form last time out at Brands Hatch, picking up a hat-trick of podium finishes. Team-mate Shawn Fleming and Neil Wallace are both targeting a return to the top three, with their sole podiums this year coming in the Oulton Park season opener.
