As the championship prepares to race at the Cheshire circuit for the first time, it’s Marc Warren (Raceway Motorsport) who is firmly the driver to beat. A former champion in the Ginetta Racing Drivers’ Club and G40 Cup, he’s led every lap so far this season to record five wins from five races.
Thomas Holland has regularly joined his team-mate in the leading pack, with a first podium of the season coming last time out at Donington Park. Leo Karavasili (Breakell Racing) also took a maiden podium result, with the racing novice having posted three pole positions out of four to date.
Nick White (MRM) impressed on the opening weekend of the season at Silverstone with a pair of top three results. Mackenzie Walker (Assetto Motorsport) also got a trophy that weekend, while Richard Sykes (W2R) picked up a third place at Donington Park.
Amongst those knocking firmly on the door of the podium during the opening two events have been top six finishers Danny Dwyer (Xentek Motorsport), Lee Frost (SVG Motorsport) and Century Motorsport duo Michael Johnston and Tom Hartley Jnr.
Martin Wills, a race-winner when the championship joined the BTCC package at Silverstone last year, is part of a competitive entry from Assetto Motorsport alongside the aforementioned Walker, Julian Wantling, Robin Grimwood and Mike West.
The competitive midfield pack has also featured impressive performances from the likes of Sebastian Dubois (Motus One), Mark Steel (Toro Verde GT), Joel Wren and Alastair Barclay with reigning champions SVG Motorsport, and Datum Motorsport pair Maurizio Sciglio and Marco Anastasi.
The 24 car entry for the GTA class this weekend is completed by Lee Goldsmith (Century Motorsport), Steve Williams (MRM) and experienced Ginetta racing duo Gary Wager and Shawn Fleming (both SF Racing).
The rookie class, in which all cars are prepared by want2race, has been dominated so far by Ravi Ramyead. Alongside a 100% class winning record across the first five races, he’s also made his mark at the front of the field, twice finishing second overall to Warren at Donington Park.
Thomas Shelley has enjoyed a great start to his maiden season of car-racing, finishing off the rookie podium only once so far. Some competitive battles for the class silverware have also seen Jon Kearney, Marc Elman and Dan Rathbone step onto the podium.
