Following great success with the original Ginetta LMP3 when it was introduced in 2015, including a dominant title victory in the European Le Mans Series, the second-generation ‘Evo’ model came in 2020; a re-imagining of the car with upgrades developed in conjunction with the Ginetta LMP1 project.
The new-for-2022 Prototype Cup Germany championship has proven to be an ideal home for the Ginetta G61-LT-P3 Evo this year. Three cars have been competing in the inaugural season so far; two for Konrad and one for the Gebhardt Motorsport outfit.
Under the stewardship of the hugely experienced racer Franz Konrad, the eponymous team have been leading the charge with the driver pairing of Axcil Jefferies and Maximilian Hackländer, having recorded a breakthrough podium finish in the previous rounds at the Nürburgring.
A fantastic performance at the Lausitzring began with them recording a first pole position in qualifying, with eye-catching pace in their first run with the car in wet conditions. They went on to convert that into a second-place finish in the opening race that afternoon, before another impressive result of second in qualifying on Sunday.
The team are aiming to continue their positive run of form into the final rounds of the 2022 Prototype Cup Germany at the Hockenheimring later this year (21-23 October).
Mike Simpson, Ginetta Head of Motorsport: “We’re delighted to see our Ginetta G61-LT-P3 Evo showcasing class leading pace in the new Prototype Cup Germany. We’re proud to see the great progress that both Konrad Motorsport and Gebhardt Motorsport have been making with the second-generation Evo car.
“The championship is proving to be an ideal home for our LMP3 customers, with good size grids and competitive racing on top circuits. We’re excited to see the series grow and will be working with the championship organisers to bring more Ginetta’s to the grid in the future.”
