Preview: Ginetta G40 Cup, Round Three, Silverstone

With three different winners from three races last time out at Snetterton, it’s heating up at the front of the Ginetta G40 Cup field as we head to Silverstone this weekend.

Heading into the third meeting of the season, it’s Alistair Barclay (SVG Motorsport) who leads the way at the top of the standings courtesy of a hat-trick of wins in the season opener at Oulton Park and a further victory at Snetterton.

Daniel Morris (Quattro Motorsport) and Rob Keogh (W2R Motorsport) have established themselves as his chief competition after impressive starts to the campaign. Like Barclay, both have finished on the podium in five of the opening six races and took a win apiece last time out.

Chris Salkeld (Assetto Motorsport) and Jimmy Thomson (W2R Motorsport) have both proven they are threats at the front of the field as well. Salkeld has qualified second and taken a podium finish in both meetings so far, while Thomson made a podium breakthrough at Snetterton.

Daniel Smith (Privateer) enjoyed an impressive debut in Norfolk with a pair of top six finishes and joins Bill Forbes (Quattro Motorsport) in holding podium aspirations, while Roy Alderslade (W2R Motorsport) is one to watch as the current points leader in the Chairmans Cup.

Alderslade has seized the early advantage with four wins from the first six races of the year, however the competition is fierce in the class. Leading the chasing pack is Assetto Motorsport team-mates Martin Wills and Julian Wantling, who won at Snetterton and Oulton Park respectively.

Mike West (Assetto Motorsport) and Ian Duggan (Fox Motorsport) have race wins in their sights after each picking up a pair of podium finishes so far, while SF Racing trio John Wall, Shawn Fleming and Gary Wager have shown they have the pace to challenge for the top three.

A talented class entry also features Assetto Motorsport’s Robin Grimwood and Lee Goldsmith, while Vince Caldicott (W2R Motorsport) makes his first appearance of the year. One driver to watch this weekend meanwhile is the ever-improving Charlotte Birch (SVG Motorsport).
