The Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship class of 2023 are ready to bring their captivating season
to a close with an exciting trio of races this weekend at Donington Park.
This year will go down in the Junior Championship history books, thanks in part to the record-breaking performance
of Freddie Slater. The newly-crowned champion sensationally won 16 of the 21 races he contested,
more victories than any other driver in championship history.
With Slater having elected to sit out the final two events, Reza Seewooruthun seized the spotlight
last time out at Brands Hatch. A phenomenal display saw him become the first driver ever in the
championship to lead every single lap en-route to a hat-trick of wins in one weekend.
The successes of Slater and Seewooruthun have played a major role in their R Racing team being
provisionally crowned 2023 Teams’ champions, the third time in four years they’ve won that
accolade. They have also set a new team record for the most race wins in a single season, a tally that
currently stands at 20.
Aiming to add to that figure for the team will be Mikey Porter, who is embroiled in a close battle
over second place in the championship standings. Having finished runner-up in seven races so far
this season, he will be determined to end his campaign with a deserved maiden victory.
In the hotseat for the runners-up spot though is Hugo Schwarze (Elite Motorsport). The German
racer has enjoyed a great first season in car-racing, scoring a breakthrough win during the
championship’s first visit to Donington Park in May and adding nine further podium results.
Alisha Palmowski (Elite Motorsport) is one to watch after taking a podium hat-trick at Brands Hatch,
her best weekend in the championship so far. Team-mate Charlie Hart has joined her in battling at
the front of the field this season, visiting the overall podium five times.
Chase Fernandez (E3SPORT) will be eager to end his season as the Ginetta Junior scholar on a high
and add to his superb three race victories so far, while R Racing pair Luca Hopkinson and Edu
Robinson join him on a long list of potential podium contenders this weekend.
Preptech UK have enjoyed an impressive season and will hope to cap it off with some overall
silverware. Henry Joslyn has been leading their challenge with regular top six finishes and a rookie
class podium finish, and he’s joined by Thomas Spragg, Brea Angliss and Alfie Davies.
Former Junior title contenders Fox Motorsport are another leading team looking to sign off the year
on a good note. Holly Miall and Harry Moss have put in some strong performances to date, while
Jack Robinson is ready to build on his championship debut at Brands Hatch.
Nick Ellis (Elite Motorsport) was another new recruit last time out, while joining the grid for the first
time this weekend is karting graduate Thomas Ingram Hill (R Racing). The entry is completed by top-
ten finisher Felix Livesey, who recently switched to brand-new team MDD Racing.
