Nick White and Ravi Ramyead will battle it out for title glory across the final race of the
2023 Ginetta GT Academy season this weekend at Donington Park.
The talented duo have enjoyed a captivating duel at the front of the grid this season. The title
pendulum has swung back and forth between the two through the year, with them remarkably
scoring 11 victories each from the 23 races to date.
Only two points separated them heading into the penultimate round at Brands Hatch last month.
However, White (Raceway Motorsport) took control of their battle in Kent. A double victory for him,
combined with a tough outing for Ramyead (Century Motorsport), has increased that gap to 77
points.
While White, who has impressively finished every race this season in the GTA class top three, is
firmly in prime position to walk away as champion this weekend, Ramyead can deprive him of the
title if he takes a perfect hat-trick of wins.
Away from the title battle, there’s a host of drivers aiming to break the top two’s dominance and
end the campaign with race victories. Mackenzie Walker (E3SPORT) is on course for a top three
points finish and has 11 podium finishes to his name, with a maiden win the next target.
Ed Acres (Century Motorsport), his team-mate Thomas Shelley, Marc Elman (SVG Motorsport) and
Jon Kearney (Raceway Motorsport) have all been regular visitors to the podium, with Kearney having
the accolade of being the only other driver than White and Ramyead to win a race.
Phil McGarty (Xentek Motorsport) and Paul Livesey (MDD Racing) have both put in some impressive
performances this year, while exciting additions to the GTA class grid this weekend are returning duo
Steve Williams (MRM) and Robin Grimwood (E3SPORT), plus former Ginetta GT4 SuperCup racer
Stephen Fresle (Century Motorsport).
Having already provisionally secured the 2023 rookie title with 14 wins to his name, Matt Shaw is
stepping up to the GTA class this weekend with Raceway Motorsport. The focus in the rookie ranks
therefore will be determining who emerges with vice-champion honours.
The favourite for that position is Amy Tomlinson, who holds a 50-point advantage with three races
to go having impressively accumulated 12 podium finishes. Her competition comes in the form of
her own sisters, Emma and Lucy, plus Charlotte Lowe – the four female racers having produced
some great racing through the campaign.
Max Ratel, son of SRO Motorsports Group founder and CEO Stéphane Ratel, is back after making his
debut last time out, while Michael Orant returns for his third outing of the year and two debutants
this weekend are Luke Shaw and Thomas Balfe.
