A major change for 2022 sees the G56 introduced as the lead car for the series, with the 6.2 litre, V8 powered machine set to produce the fastest one-make Ginetta racing ever. The G55 GT4, first introduced back in 2011, will remain on the grid too as part of a new four-class format for the series.
The headline G56 Pro class is headlined by the return of 2021 overall runner-up Josh Rattican. The three time race-winner is aiming to go one better this year, though will face tough competition, including from his Elite Motorsport team-mate and fellow race-winner Tom Emson.
James Kellett is back to challenge for the title after a brilliant cameo at the end of 2021 saw him win three of the final six races of the season. He’s running with 2015 champions Century Motorsport alongside sophomore driver Henry Dawes, who was a top six finisher last year.
An exciting addition to the grid this season is reigning Ginetta Junior champion Aston Millar (DTO Motorsport), who could become only the fourth driver ever to win both the Junior and GT4 titles. Another one to watch is former race-winner Reece Somerfield (Breakell Racing), who enters his 11th consecutive GT4 SuperCup campaign.
Colin White (CWS Racing) made history last season by becoming the first ever four-time Ginetta class champion. All of his success has come in the GT4 SuperCup and the hugely experienced driver now has a fifth crown in his sights in the G56 Am class.
Three drivers will be aiming to dethrone him. Wes Pearce (Breakell Racing) makes his series debut with previous Ginetta experience in the GT5 Challenge and GT Academy, while Darren Leung (Assetto Motorsport) enters his second season of racing having been a rookie in the GT Academy last year. Mike Brown (Ultimate Speed Racing), father of Junior racer Adam, is a newcomer to Ginetta racing.
The biggest class on the grid is the Pro category for G55 drivers. Blake Angliss (Century Motorsport) and Luke Reade (Wolf Motorsport) were front-runners in the car last year, the latter scoring a podium finish at Oulton Park, and both will be targeting consistent success this year.
James Taylor (Team HARD) is an exciting returnee to Ginettas, having been a former Junior Scholarship winner and Winter Series champion. He also has GT5 Challenge experience, as does Conner Garlick (Xentek Motorsport), a podium finisher in the series in 2020.
Two drivers with a wealth of Ginetta knowledge are Fox Motorsport duo James Townsend and Nick Halstead, including previous campaigns in Ginetta G55s. New to the car and championship meanwhile is Sam Callahan (Breakell Racing), who contested one GT5 event last year.
The G55 Am class entry features three returning drivers; Daniel Morris (Simon Green Motorsport), a six time class race-winner in sporadic outings over the last two years, and 2021 class podium finishers Garry Townsend (Assetto Motorsport) and Luke Warr (Race Car Consultants). Ian Duggan (Fox Motorsport) is a new face in the GT4 SuperCup paddock, however he did share a Ginetta G55 with Townsend in the GT Cup last year.
