The honour of being the first race-winner of the new season went the way of Tom Edgar (R Racing). One of the leading rookies in 2020, the Northern Irishman scored his maiden win in the championship with a brilliant last lap charge to the front.
For the second season in a row, a rookie driver scored an overall race victory in their debut weekend in the championship. On this occasion it was Callum Voisin, brother of 2020 title contender Bailey, who firmly highlighted himself as one to watch this season.
Whilst he missed out on a race win, it’s Seb Hopkins (Elite Motorsport) who comes to Snetterton as the early championship leader courtesy of second and third place finishes. He has a good record in Norfolk too, having recorded a double rookie podium here last year.
Aston Millar (R Racing) was another driver to enjoy a great first weekend of the season, scoring his maiden pole position and a career-best second place finish. Also recording an overall podium finish was his team-mate Josh Miller, a race-winner last year.
Hoping to join the R Racing charge at the front will be the most experienced driver on the grid, Freddie Tomlinson, while Will Jenkins (Elite Motorsport) and Liam McNeilly (Fox Motorsport) showed their pace at Thruxton with a race fastest lap each.
Alongside Voisin, fellow rookies Robert de Haan (Richardson Racing), one of the current Ginetta Junior Scholarship winners, and Josh Rowledge (Elite Motorsport) also enjoyed standout debuts as they each picked up a pair of rookie class podium finishes.
Fellow newcomers Max Dodds (Assetto Motorsport), Max Hall (Elite Motorsport) and Zac Meakin (Raceway Motorsport) launched their Junior careers in the thick of the battles for the top ten, while Joe Warhurst (Elite Motorsport) started his first full season with a brilliant qualifying display.
Joe Wheeler (Assetto Motorsport) produced an overtaking masterclass on the opening weekend, gaining 26 places in two races, whilst his team-mate Jamie Osborne made a competitive return to the series; 952 days after his last race in the 2018 season finale.
Fellow Assetto racer Harri Reynolds, Ian Aguilera (R Racing), Edward Pearson (Richardson Racing), Aqil Alibhai (Breakell Racing) and Preptech UK pair Fergus Chalmers and James Higgins all scored points finishes at Thruxton.
Aiming to open their accounts this weekend meanwhile will be Oliver Flashman (Richardson Racing), Jack Sherwood (Elite Motorsport), Jacob Hodgkiss (Race Car Consultants), Adam Brown (Privateer) and Ginetta Junior Scholarship winner Maurice Henry (Fox Motorsport).
