Latest GT Academy Ace Moves Up Ginetta Ladder

Ginetta GT Academy race-winner Luke Shaw is the latest driver to announce his graduation to the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT Championship for 2025 behind the wheel of a brand-new Ginetta G56 GTP8.

Shaw is the fifth driver from the GT Academy class of 2024 confirmed to be making the step up to the GT Championship this year. The North Yorkshire driver will be staying with Raceway Motorsport as he gets behind the wheel of the exciting V8-powered G56 GTP8.

Following a stunning triple rookie class victory on his GT Academy debut in the 2023 season finale, Shaw remained a consistent presence at the front of the field last year as he recorded six rookie podium finishes. That included a brilliant overall race win from pole position at Donington Park.

Luke Shaw:

“I am really happy to be entering the Ginetta GT Championship alongside Raceway Motorsport for 2025. We had a really successful year in 2024 showing lots of progression and Podiums and I hope for the same again this year.”

Luca Hirst, Raceway Motorsport:

“We are pleased to have Luke back in the team and stepping up to the G56 GTP8 car after putting in some great performances and podium finishes with us in GTA last year.”

The 2025 Ginetta Junior grid has been bolstered by the additions of Pace Performance duo Torrin Byrne and Ethan Lennon. Byrne will be embarking on his second season in the championship following a great debut campaign in 2024.

Impressing from the off with a seventh-place finish in his debut race at Oulton Park, the Shropshire-based racer secured a number of overall top ten results across the campaign and picked up no less than 22 class podium finishes in the Freshmans Cup.

Torrin Byrne:

“I am looking forward to joining Pace Performance again for the 2025 season. We hope to work on what we achieved last year and continue development.”

Sean Byrne, Pace Performance:

“We are pleased to have Torrin back for a second season in the Ginetta Junior Championship. We are looking forward to seeing him build on the development from last year.”

Lennon will be making his debut in the Junior championship this year. The South African talent makes the transition to car-racing following successful karting career. He was a Rok Cup national champion in his homeland and the runner-up in the 2024 Rok Superfinal in Italy.

Ethan Lennon:

“A New Chapter Begins, Pushing Limits and Chasing Dreams! Excited to get in the car and race!”

Sean Byrne, Pace Performance:

“Ethan has shown good speed in testing. We have enjoyed working with him and look forward to working with him this season.”

Alex Deighton is the latest driver to confirm his place on the 2025 GT Academy grid meanwhile, joining Paradine Competition. The former single-seater talent won the 1994 Formula First title. He was also a finalist for the coveted Autosport BRDC Award. Alex will be going racing for the first time in over a decade. His last appearance was in the Historic Grand Prix of Monaco event in 2014.

Alex Deighton:

“Thanks to my good friend Darren Leung, he persuaded me to have a run out in November at the GT Academy test day. I enjoyed it, a great little car and I was enjoying the feeling of speed and adrenaline again on a race track!

“Having not been in a race car since Monaco Historic 2014, he’s now persuaded me to come on board with Paradine Competition and do some racing in 2025 which I’m very much looking forward to.”
