Making the jump into racing can be daunting, especially if you’ve never competed before. This summer, Ginetta introduced the GTA Sprint event, serving as the perfect entry point for aspiring motorsport enthusiasts. This event is meticulously crafted to provide a firsthand experience of competitive motorsport. It offered a day filled with expert training by seasoned driver coaches, the opportunity to command the awe-inspiring Ginetta G56 GTA car at Blyton Park circuit, and an exhilarating sprint against the clock. The ultimate reward for the victor? Ginetta’s facilities to get their very own race licence, an invaluable step towards a professional racing career.
Meet Ian and Chris, two participants with distinct starting points on their motorsport journeys. Ian, a passionate enthusiast, revels in track days but does not yet consider himself a professional racer. On the other hand, Chris, hailing from New Jersey, has harboured dreams of racing for over two decades, yet had never set foot in a racing car before the GTA Sprint.
Participants at the GTA Sprint take the helm of the remarkable G56 GTA car, Ginetta’s entry-level GT sports car. This racing marvel boasts a V6 engine, paddle shift gearbox, high-performance racing brakes, and a robust tubular steel chassis. The GTA car is a true racing thoroughbred, designed to impart the art of car balance and cornering techniques. With no traction control or ABS to rely on, it’s a true test of a driver’s skill and finesse.
Sprint days
The day begins with driver coaches providing invaluable guidance, helping participants understand the nuances of the track and extract the utmost performance from their machines. An integral part of the Ginetta experience is driver development, catering to drivers of all levels, fostering skill enhancement behind the wheel. As the day unfolds, the contestants’ progress is palpable, with every lap witnessing a marked improvement in their driving abilities.
One of the distinguishing features of the GTA Sprint is the transition from guided sessions with instructors to solo driving. This pivotal shift empowers participants to apply their newfound knowledge independently, fine-tuning their skills and mastering the intricacies of the track.
The pinnacle of the day is the Sprint—a competitive race against the clock. Here, participants compete. to secure the best lap times, simulating a genuine qualifying scenario. As passionate motorsport enthusiasts, they seize the opportunity to showcase their skills and savour the exhilaration of real racing. The day’s victor, Paul Maxfield, clinches the fastest lap with an impressive 1:08:75, a time that holds its own even against the rookies in the GTA Championship!
