Halstead graduates to Ginetta’s flagship championship after three years competing in the GT5 Challenge with the Fox Motorsport team. Making his race debut in 2017, he impressively scored ten Am class podium finishes on his way to third in the standings.
The Hampshire racer built on that the following year and stormed to the Am class title with four victories along the way. Last season he stepped up to the championship’s Pro category, taking a best finish of 11th overall on two occasions.
Nick Halstead: “I’ve never been so excited about the start of a race season! I raced the GT4 version of the G55 with Fox a couple of years ago and instantly I felt at home in the car. At the time I felt I had to develop my racecraft and my experience further before coming back to it.
“Now I feel the time’s right to make the step up with Fox, who have been so supportive of my racing throughout my career, while the ITV package means it’s a very good fit for my sponsors, like ThoughtRiver, too.
“I’m not going to set any targets as it’s tough to know exactly what level of driver I’ll be up against in the Pro-Am class, but we’ll certainly be working as hard as we can to push ourselves towards the front.”
Paul McNeilly, Team Principal: “I’m thrilled that Nick has chosen to stay with Fox Motorsport for his graduation to the Ginetta GT4 Supercup. Our relationship dates back to the first race of his career and we’ve supported each other every step of the way since the start of 2017.
“The Ginetta G55 is probably the most important car in the history of Fox Motorsport as it’s the vehicle with which we entered multi-make GT racing for the first time and scored wins in three different series. This makes it extra-special to be a G55 again.”
The Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup is Ginetta’s flagship championship, with a three-class structure incorporating Pro, Pro Am and Am categories. In 2020, the series will be contested over eight race weekends in support of the British Touring Car Championship.
