The Hertfordshire based team was formed back in 2009 and has been a leading force in Lotus racing ever since. Two-time champions in the Lotus Cup UK Championship, they enjoyed a brilliant 2021 season with a clean sweep of the top three places in the MSVR Elise Trophy NA Championship. It’s two of those successful drivers that will race for them in the GT Academy this year; Maurizio Sciglio and Marco Anastasi (pictured).
Alongside their Lotus success, the team have also enjoyed multiple race wins in the Britcar Trophy, including two in a Ginetta last year. A double victory at Silverstone in July was a milestone success, with it marking the Ginetta G56 GTA’s maiden race wins in UK endurance racing.
Tom Robinson, Datum Motorsport Team Principal: “We ran a Ginetta G56 GTA in Britcar last year and were really impressed with its reliability and pace. Adding to the fact that we’ve been keen on contesting a single-make championship, the GT Academy was a perfect fit.
“We are really looking forward to racing with Ginetta this year, with two of our drivers who enjoyed great success in the Elite Trophy Championship last year. We’re hoping that both Maurizio and Marco can be up there challenge for podium finishes this season.”
British / Italian duo Sciglio and Anastasi will both be contesting only their third ever season of car racing this year, making the move to Ginetta competition after successful spells in the MSVR Elise Trophy. Following strong rookie seasons, the Edinburgh based duo shone last year to finish first and third respectively in the Normally Aspirated category.
Maurizio Sciglio: “After a couple of great years racing in the Elise Trophy, I was looking for options to continue my journey in GT racing. I feel I now need a car with dynamics closer to GT4/GT3 platforms, so the GT Academy feels like a good next intermediate step before progressing up the ladder.
“From the very first interaction I’ve been impressed by Ginetta. Their championship package, race cars, hospitality and organisation is unrivalled at this level. More importantly, I very much appreciate and admire what Ginetta is doing for British motorsport and I’m excited to be able to play a little role in supporting them.”
Marco Anastasi: “I’m very much looking forward to my third season racing and first with Ginetta! The desire to compete against a large number of drivers in a single-make championship, and Ginetta’s comprehensive and well organised package, were the key reasons behind my choice to race in the GT Academy. Moreover, the clear progression path towards GT racing is very appealing to me as I hope to spend many more years racing.”
The Ginetta GT Academy gives drivers of all experience levels the opportunity to enjoy entry level GT racing. The series offers an uncompromising package of high performance racing at an affordable cost, with the exposure of competing at British GT and BTCC events.
