Preview: 2023 Ginetta GT Championship – Donington Park GP

The 2023 season of the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT Championship will come to a close this
weekend at Donington Park, with one title decider remaining as Luke Garlick and Ella Lloyd battle
it out to become GT5 champion.

While Luke Reade (Wolf Motorsport) has already written his name into the history books as the first
ever champion in the headline GT Pro class, the latest name to be added to the illustrious roll call of
GT5 champions is still to be determined.

Xentek Motorsport team-mates Garlick and Lloyd have produced a thrilling season of racing in their
Ginetta G40 GT5’s, sharing no less than 15 class wins between them. Garlick holds a good advantage
in the points standings once dropped scores are considered, but Lloyd is ready to pounce if the
leader hits any trouble.

There is no such tension for Reade however, after he confirmed himself as a two-time Ginetta
champion at his home circuit Brands Hatch last time out. The 2022 GT4 SuperCup ‘G55 Pro’ victor
has enjoyed a sensational campaign, with 12 race victories to his name and a current run of 12
consecutive podium finishes.

It’s all to play for in the battle for the runners-up spot in the standings though, with four drivers in
contention. Callum Davies (SVG Motorsport) leads the way, with the teenage talent having visited
the podium 14 times during a remarkable debut season in car-racing.

At the other end of the experience spectrum is his closest competitor, Colin White (CWS 4×4). In a
season during which he’s crossed the milestone of 300 starts in one-make Ginetta racing, the
veteran has been combined impressive speed and consistency to regularly battle in the leading pack.
The one to watch in the battle for second is Ruben Hage (Breakell Racing), who is surging back up
the standings after some early-season issues. A brilliant race win at Brands Hatch was the GT5
Challenge graduate’s sixth of the campaign so far, a tally only bettered by Reade.

Carl Garnett (Breakell Racing), the other driver in mathematical contention for the runners-up spot,
will be heading into the weekend aiming to add to his five podium finishes to date. Conner Garlick
(Xentek Motorsport) will also be targeting silverware, having taken a race win during the
championship’s first visit to Donington Park back in May.

A stacked entry will see a capacity 11 Ginetta G56 GT Pro’s taking to the grid this weekend. As series
regulars Liona Theobald (SVG Motorsport), Shawn Fleming (SF Racing) and Bal Sidhu (Xentek
Motorsport) aim to end their seasons on a high note, there’s a returning face in four-time race-
winner Blake Angliss (Xentek Motorsport) and a new talent in Junior graduate McKenzie Douglass
(Fox Motorsport).

In the GT5 ranks meanwhile, Sam Harvey will be aiming to beat his title-chasing Xentek Motorsport
team-mates and score a breakthrough maiden victory. He’s also aiming to secure third in the class
standings, with three-time race-winner Will Rochford (TCR) and Karim Sekkat (Breakell Racing)
remaining in contention. Pablo Jequier (Race Car Consultants) completes the class entry.
