Ash and Noah Young: “We’re Loving The Experience”

Whether it be racing on track, working in the paddock or a mixture of the two, seeing racing families experiencing the thrill of Ginetta UK Championship race weekends together has been a regular sight over the years.

2026 is no exception, with many family connections within our paddock. One of those comes with father and son pairing Ash and Noah Young, who are both competing on track this season with leading team Performance One Motorsport.

Noah started his career first, joining the Ginetta Junior Championship powered by Sunoco Race Fuels grid last year with no racing or karting experience of any kind prior. An impressive start saw him finish in the top ten in only his second race, before going on to score regular points finishes and best overall result of seventh.

After picking up a breakthrough podium in the Winter Series, the 16-year-old has particularly impressed with his overtaking prowess so far this season, on three occasions climbing from outside the top 20 on the grid to top ten finishes.

“I’ve always loved racing. I watched the film Cars religiously as a child with Dad so I think it grew from there really,” said Noah. “I’d done no karting at all before Ginetta Juniors, so coming into a race car was quite hard to start with. I’ve started to prove that I can do it, and I’ll keep pushing forward through the season.”

Whilst supporting Noah’s career from the sidelines last year, Ash got the urge to get on track himself. A debut in the Ginetta GT Academy in the 2025 season finale yielded a great rookie class podium finish, and inspired him to return for a full campaign this year.

“We’ve been on the journey together and it’s been brilliant,” explains Ash. “It’s been great fun learning about motorsport and getting stuck in from test days to race weekends. I kind of got the bug, did a couple of test days with Performance One and decided to give it a go. I initially found it harder than I thought I would, finding that last little bit to be on the pace, but I’m getting there.”

The duo now experience a different dynamic on race weekends, looking to support each other’s racing efforts as much as possible whilst being kept busy by their own sessions and preparations.

“I wouldn’t say he’s giving me any tips yet, but we support each other as much as we can,” joked Noah. “It’s been great having this experience alongside Dad. I see him a lot less on race weekends now which is a bit sad, but we’re both having fun and loving the experience.”

With both of them starting their motorsport careers on the Ginetta UK Championships ladder, the natural intrigue is there as to where the future make take them and potentially the opportunity to go racing together.

“I think it would be great for Noah to experience the single-seater side of motorsport or something like that,” Ash concluded. “That said, it would be really cool one day to do British GT together in something like a McLaren. That would be pretty sick. He’d get cross at me for going too slow, but I think we could become a competitive PRO-AM pairing.”

Noah and Ash Young will continue their Ginetta Junior Championship powered by Sunoco Race Fuels and Ginetta GT Academy programmes respectively during the Ginetta Festival at Croft later this month (27/28 June).
