James Birch has become the latest newcomer to the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup, having today announced plans to compete with Century Motorsport behind the wheel of their Ginetta G55.
The current Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge GB champion has previous successes in European Formula Vee, Formula Renault BARC and Radical UK before being crowned as Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge GB Champion in 2012.
Now making his move to the Ginetta GT Supercup, James is confident he can continue this form to add another championship title to his racing CV, he said; "Century Motorsport have provided me with a fantastic opportunity in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup. It is a challenge I'm really looking forward to, and I am determined to be competing for wins at the first meeting in Brands Hatch.
“I have been working hard with the guys to get used to the car, and I can't wait just to be back in the car again! It's been an interesting learning curve so far, with the car being another new challenge from my previous racing experience. However, I feel that after a successful year in Porsches, I can transfer that knowledge into a successful year in Ginetta’s.
“Being such a competitive year ahead, it certainly won't be easy, but I'm excited to make the step onto the TOCA package and continue to take my career further."
Century Team Principal Nathan Freke is equally delighted to sign the young Buckinghamshire driver after some very encouraging pre-season testing. He said; "I'm delighted to be working with James this year in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup. We have tested him twice and he was extremely fast in conditions that were very tricky.
“He has a great track record and understands what is required to win a championship - a very valuable asset. We are all looking forward to a very successful season and we want to be fighting for the title from the first round."
