Ashley Marshall will return to the Optimum Motorsport team for 2017 as he aims to bring home champagne and silverware in his first full season as part of the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge.
The 21 year old from Bridlington contested selected rounds in 2016 and with a complete programme in place for 2017, hopes to finish the season inside the championship top five, with a number of podium finishes under his belt.
Ashley Marshall, Driver: “I’m looking forward to returning to the Ginetta GT5 Challenge this year and having a proper shot at a top five championship finish. Last year I had an accident in testing at Croft which forced me to miss a handful of rounds, so I plan to give this season my all and pick up plenty of trophies.
“New for this year I also have Le Mans winner factory driver Guy Smith working with me as my mentor which is really helping push my career further as Guy's achievements are something I've always admired and I think we have a strong partnership ahead.”
The Ginetta GT5 Challenge offers a unique opportunity to race in a single-make racing championship whilst still being a part of the prestigious British GT and Touring Car weekends. The Ginetta GT5 Challenge is suitable for all ages and levels of race experience and is widely known as being the breeding ground for future professional drivers.
Joining the British GT Championship at five meetings, with an additional two as part of the British Touring Car Championship support bill, this seven-weekend series is a popular entry-level championship for many aspiring GT racers.
