Richard Smith is back and ready for business after today confirming his intentions to secure the 2016 GRDC+ series honours with the Xentek Motorsport outfit.
The 44 year old from Derbyshire joined the Ginetta Racing Drivers club in 2015 and was a force to be reckoned with from the start. Opening the season with second overall at Rockingham Motor Speedway, Richard also claimed a trio of fastest laps and further podiums on his way to securing fourth overall in the driver standings.
Now, with the might of the Xentek Motorsport outfit behind him, the Charapak Ltd CEO is determined to secure the overall series title. Luckily for him, a mix of speed, aggression and a passionate driving style makes him stand out from the crowd, and will be his secret weapon which it comes to crossing the line first.
Richard Smith, driver;“I can’t wait to get back out there in my Ginetta G40, somehow driving around the streets of Derbyshire doesn’t quite give me the same level of excitement as hurtling into Paddock Hill Bend at full speed! I never signed up for the GRDC to finish fourth, so this year it’s all about going for that win!”
Hayley Hickmore, Ginetta Championships Coordinator;“We are delighted Richard has decided to continue his motorsport journey by moving into the GRDC+ class. His podium celebration from Brands Hatch in 2015 was something of a moment to remember, and we’re sure he will be back on the rostrum for more of the same in 2016.”
For 2016, the GRDC+ grid is bigger than ever, as the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club class of 2015 join those who joined Ginetta for the inaugural season in 2014. With that in mind, the 2016 GRDC+ calendar will feature both standalone races and outings as part of the Ginetta GT5 Challenge grid.
