Adrian Campbell-Smith is set to graduate into the GRDC+ next season, as the reigning Ginetta Racing Drivers Club champion looks to secure a second series honours in as many years.
With 20 new drivers having obtained their race licence with Ginetta in 2015, Adrian enjoyed an impressively dominant season in the GRDC. Four wins and three second places in eight races made him the man to beat, and he’s certainly looking to set the bar next season.
Driving his road legal Ginetta G40 to the circuit for each round, the season highlight for Adrian was a double win at Brands Hatch in August against very stern and close (but fair) competition in very hot conditions, which he cited as a key step towards the series win.
Adrian Campbell-Smith, driver;“I had a great first year with Ginetta. For 2016 I aim to be on the podium regularly and to win races; this will be a significant challenge with new tyres, new circuits, experienced racers and a host of really committed fast drivers who competed in GRDC+ last season too, but the goal is to try to win the GRDC+ championship!”
“I can honestly say the GRDC lived up to its billing and my hopes and much more – it was an awesome year’s racing and I have made many friends among my fellow drivers, and the wonderful Ginetta staff.
Hayley Hickmore, Ginetta Championships Coordinator; “Adrian really was a force to be reckoned with in 2015, so we are delighted to see him returning. Last season’s GRDC+ contingent were incredibly strong racers, so seeing both grids come together in 2016 is going to be exciting!”
The GRDC+ provides Ginetta Racing Drivers Club graduates with an arena in which to race their road-legal Ginetta G40 Club Cars. It is also the ideal starting platform for drivers who have too much circuit racing experience for the pure entry-level Ginetta Racing Drivers Club.
In support of the British GT, the 2016 GRDC+ calendar will feature standalone races, plus outings as part of the Ginetta GT5 Challenge grid. Drivers can take in Brands Hatch, Rockingham, Silverstone, Spa Francorchamps, Snetterton and Donington Park.
