Chris Ingram has today confirmed plans to return to the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup for 2016, where he will once again contest the AM class of the British Touring Car Championship support series in his Ginetta G55 GT4 car.
The 50 year old from Bedale in North Yorkshire who is Chairman of YM Group Ltd joined the championship in 2015 as part of the newly formed AM class, which was introduced to ensure racers with time-consuming workloads are not at a disadvantage to those career racers who can test and train throughout the week.
Taking a podium result in his first ever weekend in the Ginetta, Chris was a strong contender for the crown from the outset. With six top three class finishes in his debut season he finished fourth overall, but has the championship title well in his sights this year.
Chris Ingram, driver;“The Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup is a fantastic championship to race in, and it’s great to be out there on the TOCA package alongside some fantastic drivers. The AM class suits me down to the ground as it’s a relatively inexpensive way to compete in a championship which is popular with both drivers and fans. Not only that, but it gives myself and the other drivers - who have time consuming work commitments away from the track - something of a level playing field. I can’t wait to get back out there!”
Ashley Gallagher, Ginetta Championships Manager added; “Chris is one of the first AM drivers to confirm his return to the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup and we are delighted that he is continuing with us. He’s now in a position of having spent a year getting to grips with the car and the circuits, so no doubt he’ll be a regular on the podium once again!”
The Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup will see a change in format for 2016 in order to keep costs to a minimum. The championship will be reduced to eight weekends, and will ‘sit out’ the Thruxton (07/08 May) and Croft (18/19 June) meetings. A testing restriction will also be in place. After the Ginetta Media Day, competitors will only be able to test at championship venues during the official Ginetta pre-event test and the official Friday test before the event.
Broadcast live on ITV4, the opening rounds of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup get underway at Brands Hatch on 2/3 April 2016.
