In what has been one of the most eagerly awaited head-to-heads of the 2015 European Le Mans Series, Team LNT proved their raw pace once again today, setting the quickest times of all LMP3 cars in both wet and dry test sessions at Estoril.
The Ginetta-Nissan LMP3 was joined on track for the first time by the Ligier JS P3 Nissan, which makes its competitive debut in the final round of ELMS this weekend.
Punching in times around a second quicker than the rival marque in all conditions, Mike Simpson kicked things off by powering the #2 Ginetta-Nissan LMP3 into the top spot in FP1 and an impressive fifth overall with a blistering 1:53.219.
In spite of torrential rain and howling winds, Charlie Robertson followed suit, setting his #3 Team LNT car on a course to set a 1:54.600 before the session was red flagged due to the worsening weather.
The second session was met with blue skies and sunshine, and with the drying track, the faster times began to emerge. Ginetta were once again the class of the field, with the #2 car setting a 1:39.712, and the sister car not far behind, having set a 1:39.808.
The Ginetta-Nissan LMP3 has been unchallenged by any other manufacturer this season, locking out the entire class grid at four of the five championship rounds and taking the inaugural class title during the penultimate
With storms on a ‘biblical’ scale set to hit the circuit for both qualifying and the race tomorrow, the stage is well and truly set for an epic grand finale, with Ginetta looking to further cement their authority on the LMP3 class field.
