Michael Caine scored a mighty victory for the Amigos Tequila Flavoured Beer racing team at Brands Hatch over the weekend (10/11 October) during the support race programme to the British Touring Car Championship.
Caine was back in the cockpit to represent Amigos in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup after missing the previous two race weekends due to a back injury. Undeterred, the Newmarket-based racer was right on the pace all weekend and ended the season with his second victory of the campaign.
Caine set out his intentions for the weekend by qualifying third fastest in a big 27-car field, just three-tenths of a second away from pole position at a track that is widely regarded as the toughest in the UK. He maintained that form with two fighting third places before scoring a commanding win in the final race as a record crowd of 42,000 fans watched the action.
“That’s a great way to come back from injury and I’m very pleased to finish the season with another win for the Amigos team,” said Caine. Despite missing four races, Caine ended the year fourth in the final overall championship standings.
