Ginetta GT5 Challenge race winner Callum Pointon made his third appearance of the season in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup with TCR over the weekend at Brands Hatch, and the Staffordshire driver secured a brace of top 10 finishes from the three races contested during the series finale.
Qualifying 11th fastest for race one on Saturday, the encounter was red flagged almost as soon as it started following a multi-car accident at Paddock Hill Bend. When the action got back underway, Pointon was unfortunately bundled down to 21st position but he recovered well despite gear shift issues to end the truncated six lap encounter in 15th place.
Making a great start to race two, Pointon climbed into the top 12 into Paddock Hill Bend and took another place on lap two, again at Paddock, before then breaking into the top 10 on lap six at the same turn having been bottled up behind Colin White for several laps. Although edged back to 11th before a late Safety Car, Pointon moved back into the top 10 on the final lap after two rivals clashed.
From the fifth row of the grid in race three, Pointon climbed into eighth and stayed there for almost the duration until an unfortunate moment on lap 11 meant he slipped back to 10th place. Once again, the action was red flagged before the intended conclusion so Pointon was classified in 10th position after 11 racing laps and also matched the pace of the race winner, Michael Caine.
“Callum has done another solid job this weekend, he’s learning loads and really getting to grips with the extra power of the G55”, added Brookes, “He’s had some good results, and he had the pace for more, but two top 10 finishes is good going on only his third weekend in the championship.”
