Perez chases top 10 at Brands Hatch

Perez chases top 10 at Brands Hatch Seb Perez was unlucky not to score a top 10 finish to sign off his 2015 KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship campaign during the final two rounds of the season at Brands Hatch (10/11 October). The Chesterfield-based teenager was racing in a fiercely competitive field for the Ginetta Junior Championship, which is contested by 14 to 17 year-old racers. His race programme is supported by Morris Lubricants. On Saturday Perez qualified 19th fastest in the closely-matched Ginetta pack. He’d not been able to test at the track other than on the Friday before the race weekend. “Qualifying wasn’t ideal but we thought we could race from there,” he said. In the first race he made some places but then there was a safety car period. “I didn’t get such a good re-start after the safety car and I lost contact with the main pack,” he said after racing to 17th place. “The second race was going really well and I got up to 11th place,” he said. “But then I got tagged at Stirlings and spun round, which lost me four or five places. Then there was a red flag and no time to recover the lost ground. A finish in the top 10 or 12 would have been a perfect end to the season.” Seb was classified 14th in the final race results and ended the season in the championship top 20 after a major learning season. “Brands was a good weekend and it has set us up for the Ginetta Junior Winter Series at Snetterton on 7/8 November. We’ve got four races in the weekend, so there’s lots of seat time.”
