Silverstone marked a return to action in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup for TCR with Callum Pointon, who the team helped steer to third place in this year’s Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge, making his second appearance of the year in the series.
Beginning the first race in 10th position, having lapped only 0.6 seconds shy of pole position in qualifying, Pointon lost a place on the opening lap but when two rivals exited the race at Becketts on the second tour he was elevated into ninth.
For the entirety of the 24 lapper the TCR racer swarmed all over the back of Reece Somerfield but, try as he might, he just couldn’t carve open a passing opportunity. As a queue of cars built-up behind sixth placed Stefan Hodgetts, Pointon continued to hassle Somerfield but during the second half of the race he also had to fend off the attentions of Carl Boardley to maintain ninth to the flag.
Starting race two from ninth position, Pointon held the place through the first couple of corners but his hopes went awry at Brooklands on the first lap after a spin. Rejoining in 22nd and last position, the Cheddleton driver made up a significant amount of time to battle back into 17th at the finish.
