Karting ace Anthony Ayres has today confirmed his intentions to compete in the 2015 KICK Start Energy Drink Ginetta Junior Winter Series at Snetterton Circuit on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November 2015.
This season, Ayres has contested the X30 LGM Kart Series after graduating from the Junior Rotax class, but now has his sights firmly set on progressing his motorsport career by stepping up into sports cars.
Having worked with Mectech Motorsport for the past six years, the youngster will join BRDC Rising Star Bradley Smith as part of the Ginetta family. Ayres also has his sights set on a full season in the KICK Start Energy Drink Ginetta Junior Championship with the Mectech team in 2016.
Ayres said; “I am really looking forward to joining the KICK Start Energy Drink Ginetta Junior grid. I’m hoping the winter series will give me the experience I need to be competitive in next year’s Championship. I also want to develop further as a driver with the help of Bradley Smith and the Mectech Team.”
Bradley Smith, Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup race winner and Team Manager/Driver Coach Mectech Motorsport added; "It's great seeing Ant make the step up from karts to cars. It's a lot to learn and a big change but he is willing to put in the hard work and we should be in for a good 2016.
“Having Ant in the team for the last five years means he already has a good idea of how the team operates and knows all the staff which should help settle into the busy paddock at the BTCC events, I'm looking forward to seeing him racing."
The two day event will feature one fifteen minute qualifying session and two fifteen minute races per day, meaning the event will essentially run like two back-to-back Ginetta Junior Championship meetings.
With half price entry into the 2016 KICK Start Energy Drink Ginetta Junior Championship on offer, the winner will be the driver who amasses the most points over the four races, using the same points system as the main Ginetta Junior Championship.
