Seb Perez had a solid weekend to claim a top 12 finish during 16 of the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship at Rockingham (5/6 September).
The Chesterfield-based teenager was racing in a fiercely competitive field for the Ginetta Junior Championship, which is contested by 14 to 17 year-old racers.
“Free practice wasn’t so good, but we found some better pace for qualifying,” he said after posting a best lap only 1.2 seconds away from pole position. However, in the closely matched Ginettas, that meant starting from 16th place on the grid for the opening race on Saturday.
“The first race was a bit mixed. I made up a couple of places but ended up defending on the last lap and lost the places back with a slide. So that put me back to 16th on the grid for the second race. I did quite well to finish 12th,” said Seb. Importantly, in both races he was running with the pack of cars battling for eighth place, showing that more top 10 finishes are well within reach.
“It’s been a good strong weekend after a couple of difficult weekends and I’m looking forward to the next two races at Silverstone later this month,” he said.
The KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship continues at Silverstone over the weekend of 26/27 September.
