Pirtek-backed teenaged racer Jamie Caroline will bid to regain the championship lead in rounds 15 and 16 of the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship at the Rockingham Motor Speedway in Northamptonshire next weekend (5/6 September).
Caroline, who was 16 years-old earlier this year, was selected by Pirtek Racing and Andrew Jordan for support this season as he contests the BTCC-support series for young racers and is currently second in the championship with the renowned HHC Motorsport. It has been an incredible summer to date for the teenager in the fiercely competitive championship and the Pirtek Racing Ginetta took a 22-point championship lead to Knockhill for rounds 13 and 14.
However, it was a very mixed weekend for Jamie in Scotland as another win in the first race was followed by a disaster in the second race when he couldn’t see the start lights.
He dropped to the tail of the field after a pit-stop and left Scotland three points down on his major rival, Senna Proctor. With six wins from the last eight races, Jamie is clearly the pacesetter and now needs two strong finishes at Rockingham to re-establish himself at the head of the points as the championship showdown heads into the final six races of the season.
“There are still a lot of points to taken,” said Jamie. “There are 35 points in each of six races and I want to get as many as I can and win the championship. I was on for a win at Rockingham last year and got taken out at the last corner. Rockingham’s a good track for me and I’m looking forward to going there.
The HHC team won both races there last year!” After qualifying at 2.35pm on Saturday afternoon, the first race starts at 4.55pm on Saturday with the second race at 10.55am on Sunday.
