PREVIEW : Ginetta GT5 Challenge Set For Spa

PREVIEW : Ginetta GT5 Challenge Set For Spa

Championship leader James Kellett (TCR) arrives at Spa with a race in hand over his closest rival Ollie Chadwick (Xentek Motorsport), with the pair expecting to defend from their title rival Callum Pointon (TCR), who showed rapid pace in Belgium last year.

Rounding out the top five, Stewart Linn (Optimum Motorsport) is no stranger to the podium at the famous track, having taken silverware in every race during his previous visit, whilst Luca Hirst (Xentek Motorsport) will be looking to add to the third place he enjoyed at Oulton Park.

Grouped together in the championship standings and fighting over a spot in the top ten are James Robinson (Optimum Motorsport), Ryan Hadfield (R & J Motorsport), Dan O’Brien (Optimum Motorsport), Ian Robinson (TCR) and Charles Plumley (Privateer), so expect them to be fighting it out on track as the try to close the points gap to Nick Zapolski (Buddy Racing) ahead of them.

Elsewhere on the grid, Jack Minshaw (Buddy Racing), Russ Simpson (Privateer), Mohammed Elshimy (SVG Motorsport) and Matt Palmer (Privateer) will once again be enjoying their inter-pack race, with the GT5 class grid completed by Alexis Taylor (Xentek Motorsport) and Glen Broster (ABG).

In the GRDC+ class, it’s still the want2race boys out front, with Rob Keogh and Ben Hyland taking five of the six available class wins and the pair on the podium in all bar one race. The biggest fly in their ointment comes from Shawn Flemming, whose consistent top five results have earned him third in the standings, although he will certainly be chasing that as-yet-illusive win this weekend.

Just outside the top three, the only other driver to have claimed a win this year is 2014’s unbeaten GRDC race winner Charles Ferguson, who continually mixes it up front and will be one to watch this weekend as he aims to close the gap to the leaders.

Elsewhere, Andrew Marshall, Chris Babington, John Wall and Usman Mughal will be looking racy, with the latter two looking to make up for lost points following an incident in the Silverstone weekend opener last time out.

Building on their experiences from the entry-level GRDC series last year will be Guy Redwood, Brian Ellory, Gary Wager, Keith Sinclair and Andy Bradshaw, who are looking forward to their first racing trip across the channel alongside series newcomer Chris Jones.
