Seb Perez showed fine progress to break into the top 10 during rounds nine and ten of the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship at Croft over the weekend (27/28 June).
The Chesterfield-based teenager was racing at the North Yorkshire track in a fiercely competitive field for the Ginetta Junior Championship, which is contested by 14 to 17 year-old racers. His race programme is supported by Morris Lubricants.
The pair of races at the North Yorkshire track took the championship to the mid-point of the season. Seb’s target right from the start of the season was to be racing in the middle of the field by the halfway point in the schedule and he hit that target in style at Croft with his best finish to date.
In qualifying on Saturday he set 18th fastest time with a best lap that was less than a second and a half away from the pole position time. Just half a second faster would have moved Seb up five places on the incredibly closely-matched grid.
The weekend’s opening race late on Saturday afternoon went very well and Seb was able to battle through and take what eventually became tenth place. “That’s my best result to date,” said Seb. “I had a great race and stayed out of trouble. I’m very pleased with the result as our aim has always been to be running in the mid-field by the middle part of the season and we’re bang on target. We’re where we wanted to be.”
In the second race on Sunday, Seb lost some ground when he was forced onto the grass to avoid the spinning car of title contender Billy Monger. That cost him time, but Seb was soon back into his stride and battling with established front-runners as he raced to 14th place.
There is now a summer break in the calendar and the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship continues at Snetterton (Norfolk) over the weekend of 8/9 August.
