Ginetta can today confirm that karting ace Anthony Ayres is set to join the Mectech Motorsport team with a view to contest the 2016 KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship.
Anthony has raced with the Mectech karting team for the last six years and will start a testing program towards the end of 2015 with the aim of competing in the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Winter Series, before a full championship season in 2016.
Moving up from the karting team that he has previously raced with means that Anthony will continue to race under the eye of team coach Bradley Smith, something that Ayres believes will help him in the transition.
Ayres said;“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to make the jump to cars, and to still be racing with the team that ran me in karts means I feel very comfortable with the move. Having the same team around me really helps and it is not all too much of a shock, as racing cars is quite different to karting especially with the championship being on the BTCC package”
Team manager Mike Smith is looking forward to seeing him behind the wheel of his Ginetta and is keen to see how Ayres takes to the change from karts to cars.“We have worked with Ant for a long time in karting and seen his progression, its great to see him make the transition into cars. Anthony is very hard working and I think the Junior Ginetta will suit his style very much, we should be in for a successful and exciting years racing”
