The opening round of the British GT supporting GRDC+ saw the want2race team leave Rockingham Motor Speedway with five trophies and the championship lead – one they intend to bolster at Silverstone in just over a week’s time.
Taking home a total of five trophies between them, Rob Keogh and Ben Hyland dominated the newly introduced Ginetta GT5 Challenge sub-class, with Keogh - winner of the 2012 want2race competition - currently heading up the championship standings with 94 points, marginally ahead of Charles Ferguson on 81 and Shawn Fleming in third with 69 points.
Ben Hyland, want2race founder and team boss lies fourth in the championship after retiring from the second race of the season following a blown fuse. Hyland said; “Really pleased with the first competitive weekend in the car, we got the set up perfect for both wet and dry races and we were disappointed not to get some points after our epic battle with Ferguson in race two. Rob drove faultlessly all weekend and deservedly sits top of the table moving into Silverstone. Game on!”
Silverstone also sees 2014 want2race winner back into the Ginetta fold, with James Taylor making a guest appearance in the entry level Ginetta Racing Drivers Club, making it a trio of entries for team want2race at the next round. Taylor, CAR magazine staff writer, said; “I’m so excited to get back behind the wheel of a GRDC race car, we tested at Silverstone and felt really comfortable – a home from home! Looking forward to seeing everyone again and some close exciting racing at Silverstone in a couple of weeks time”.
Drivers wishing to experience real racing cars can join the want2race Ginetta competition this year by registering online and taking part in a qualifying karting session at a partner circuit across the UK. One hundred drivers will then be taken through to Bedford Autodrome who will get to experience a fleet of Ginetta GRDC race cars, alongside top instructors including BTCC stars Jack Goff and Adam Morgan.
Want2race will offer one talented novice driver a fully funded season in the 2016 Ginetta Racing Drivers Club, with everything included from entries, MSA race licence, clothing, safety equipment and technical support & driver coaching each weekend.
