The Ginetta Racing Drivers Club speeds into action at Rockingham Motor Speedway this weekend, as 17 newly qualified racing drivers enjoy their first ever motor race, all behind the wheel of their brand new, fully road legal Ginetta G40 Club cars. Ruth Harrison explains.
Now in its second year, the all-inclusive GRDC package is aimed at drivers with a desire to test their mettle at racing, offering step-by-step support as they move from the UK roads to some of the finest GT circuits in the country, and the best bit – this field of rookie racers only passed their test (ARDS tests that is) last month!
Arguably one of the most experienced of the bunch is Paul Garstang, who will be looking to claim bragging rights over fellow Lancashire man Dan Collinson who – ironically – lives in Garstang! Whilst Oulton Park local Paul Oliphant from Cheshire and Phillip McGarty from Oldham will be trying to go one better for their neighbouring counties.
Representing the South of England will be Mark Cundy, an accountant from Kent, boss of SG Group Jim Finneran from Warwickshire, Business Development Manager and avid blogger Stefan Nadarajan from Epsom. Plus Hampshire-based Financial Advisor Colin Plumb, Mike Jarvis from Southampton and currency operations trader from Greenwich, Adrian Campbell-Smith.
Residing a stone’s throw from the Ginetta factory and looking to claim the pride of Yorkshire, Simon Walker from York will be challenging Richard Evans from Selby, as well as Mike Newbold who lives a little further north, in Kirbymoorside. Completing the grid are Welshman Roy Perkins and Richard Smith.
If you have a motorsport itch you need to scratch, the full package is just £29,950, and you get your own, fully road legal Ginetta G40 Club car plus everything required to begin competing.
