The KICK Start Energy Drink Ginetta Junior Championship roars back into action at Donington Park this weekend as a packed grid of 25 young teenagers prepare to tackle the Derby circuit. With Rookie racers mixing it with seasoned competitors at the last event, there promises to be no end of excitement throughout their two encounters.
Senna Proctor is arguably the man to beat this weekend as a third place and race win at Brands Hatch afforded him the early championship lead, however he can expect to be kept honest by his JHR Developments teammate Billy Monger who won the opening race of the season. Others to watch from the JHR Developments fold include 2014 race winner Dan Zelos, girl racer Esmee Hawkey and newcomer Rowan Bailey.
Hot on their heels will undoubtedly be HHC Motorsport competitors Jamie Caroline, who won the 2014 Ginetta Junior Winter Series, current top rookie racer Patrik Matthiesen, who enjoyed two outright podiums at Brands and Sophia Floersch, who narrowly missed out on a top three finish in race one, but still picked up a rookie podium.
Keep an eye too on Will Tregurtha (RCE) and Kyle Hornby (R & J Motorsport), both of whom picked up a rookie cup podium at Brands Hatch, along with Ginetta Junior Scholarship winner Stuart Middleton (Douglas Motorsport), in his vibrant Quinton Hazell (QH) supported car.
Also impressing on his championship debut was William Stacey (Jamsport), who currently sits third in the Rookie Cup championship thanks to a consistently strong weekend combined with the fastest lap of the race in the opening encounter.
Having expanded for 2015, the R & J Motorsport team displayed a strong performance at the season opener, so expect to see close racing from their drivers Lewis Brown, Jonny Hadfield and Frank Bird.
Fielding three cars, TCR will be hoping their drivers Cameron Roberts, Matt Chapman and Dave Wooder can hold off the advances of the Hillspeed pairing of Harry Mailer and Benjamin Wallace. Returning to the Tollbar Racing squad are rookie racers Alex Day and Tristan Charpentier, whilst completing the grid is KICK Start Energy Drink sponsored driver Seb Perez, Supergreen Racing competitor, Ben Green and Elite Motorsport driver, Geri Nicosia.
If the opening rounds of the season were anything to go by, this weekend’s KICK Start Energy Drink Ginetta Junior Championship promises two unmissable races from our field of 14 – 17 year olds, so make sure you never miss a minute of the action both on and off track by following @GinettaCars on Twitter.
