Newcastle-Upon-Tyne’s Stephen Young will return to the UK motorsport scene to pilot a third SV Racing-entered Ginetta G55 for the duration of the 2015 Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup.
Young took his first steps in Karting aged 13 and went on to make a name for himself during a diverse and successful career, having amassed countless race wins and podium finishes while competing around the world in many of the most prominent single-seater and sportscar categories.
The Cape Town, South Africa-domiciled driver made his car racing debut in 1989 as part of the world-famous Winfield Racing School in the Formula Renault Series and finished runner-up in the final classification, prior to his maiden campaign in the British Formula First Championship, in which he stood his ground against a bumper 65-car entry to end the year third overall.
His on-track exploits were combined with roles as a Racing Instructor at the globally-renowned Brands Hatch circuit and for well known car manufacturers, while also providing BMW with technical support on its range of road cars, although he eventually opted to concentrate on his own business interests as the proprietor of a night club complex in the North East of England.
Using his business acumen to further his motorsport career, firstly entering his own Protec Engineering team in Formula 3, Young’s racing has taken him on an extraordinary journey to far-flung corners of the globe, such as Japan, the USA and South Africa.
However, Young truly learned how to put a championship campaign together when he won the coveted Formula Palmer Audi title in 2004 and, with the support of Fish Market Restaurant in Newcastle and K1 Media, he is back on home soil, ready to draw on his years of experience to reach the top in the highly competitive Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup with SVR, in association with Blaze Racing
"I'm delighted to be returning to UK motorsport with SV Racing in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup," said Young. "With such professional pe and motivated people behind me for the duration, I am sure that 2015 is going to be an amazing season, especially as I will also being racing out in South Africa in the V8 Masters Series. I will definitely be clocking up some air miles!" The 2015 Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup roars into life on the world-renowned Brands Hatch Indy circuit (4-5 April) and will tour the nation’s greatest racetracks, including Donington Park, Oulton Park and Silverstone, as part of the illustrious support package for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).
