BRDC Rising Star Bradley Smith has today confirmed plans to join to the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup with new team, Mectech Motorsport.
As one of the premier drivers on the British sports car racing scene, the four-time Radical champion and his family team will step up into the British Touring Car Championship support series following their joint success over the past four years.
Smith said; “We are really looking forward to the challenge, it’s been a last minute deal and I would like to thank Lawrence Tomlinson and Jamie Robinson for their help in making it happen. It’s going to be tough as we won’t have much testing before the first race, but I am sure we can run at the sharp end!”
Attracted to the high-profile nature of the championship and seeking a new challenge, Smith is hoping to take the title outright in his first year of competition, and he certainly has the CV to hit the ground running.
A former karter, Smith only stepped up to cars three years ago, and has never missed out on a title since, winning the Radical Clubman Cup and Supersport class in 2012, their UK Cup in 2013 and the Radical European Masters in 2014.
Smith was originally due to compete in the European Le Mans Series behind the wheel of a Ginetta-Nissan LMP3 car with Greaves Motorsport, but made the switch to the single-make championship following the team’s plans to postpone their entry until 2016.
The 2015 Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup and its partner series, the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship gets underway at Brands Hatch on 4/5 April.
