Multiple Ginetta champion and British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) SuperStar Tom Ingram will return to the British Touring Car Championship for 2015, after announcing plans to run with the Hughes/Speedworks Motorsport Team.
The Stockport based outfit, who also compete in various endurance events with their Ginetta G50 GT4 car, gave Ingram his break into the UK's premier Motorsport in 2014 following his Championship win in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup. After a rollercoaster year that gave Tom a plethora of top ten finishes, more than his fair share of bad luck, and some blindingly quick qualifying, both Tom and the team will be able to hit the ground running.
Ingram said; “I’m over-the-moon to be returning to the BTCC this season, and thrilled to be doing so with Speedworks. It’s no great secret that we’ve had a long, tough winter trying to raise sufficient budget to stay in the championship – we thought we were sorted, but then there was a change in circumstances for one of our major sponsors and they were unfortunately unable to continue their support.
“That meant it really was touch-and-go for a while, but we never gave up hope or stopped pushing and it’s extremely rewarding to see all of our hard work now pay off. The Speedworks guys are a fantastic bunch and I established a great relationship with them last year, and although we did talk to other teams over the off-season, they made a very compelling argument to stay!
“With so many drivers moving around and switching seats, being able to rely upon that prior knowledge and stability is unquestionably an advantage, and having seen the modifications that have been made to the Avensis, I can’t wait to get out there and put it through its paces.
“It’s too early to set any solid goals just yet, but with the experience of my rookie year under my belt, I definitely want to be moving forward and scoring some consistent top six finishes in 2015 – and if we can do that, hopefully our first BTCC podium won’t be too far away...”
Hughes Safety Showers boss, Tony Hughes added; "We know Tom well now, and he knows us. The first season in the BTCC is notoriously difficult for drivers, particularly those coming from rear-wheel drive. We saw it ourselves with Adam Morgan in 2012, he's now proved himself with experience, I've no doubt that Tom has the pace to move the Team up the grid. He's a lovely lad, and we're very happy to have him back."
The season kicks off at Brands Hatch in Kent on the 4/5th April, and with a busy testing schedule ahead of them, plus the official season launch [and test] at Donington on the 24th March, both BRDC SuperStar; Tom, and the Team should be in fine shape on the starting grid come April.
