Dave Wooder Joins KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship

Hugely successful kart racer Dave Wooder, a championship winner at both British and European level, has become the third driver signing for Total Control Racing’s campaign in the 2015 Ginetta Junior Championship.

Chatham-based Wooder will make his car racing debut with TCR off the back of a superb season last year where he won the Kartmasters Grand Prix and British Open Junior Rotax titles. He also became Super 1 British Vice-Champion and was also crowned Vice-Champion of the World Finals in Valencia, Spain.

The 15-year-old’s arrival at the renowned Wednesbury team sees him join fellow car racing rookie Cameron Roberts, the 2014 Ginetta Junior Scholarship runner-up, and top 10 regular Matt Chapman who is aiming to be a podium challenger in his sophomore campaign.

“I’ve loved my time in karting but the time is right to make the move into cars”, said Wooder, “We thought we better make the decision now and Ginetta Junior is obviously a good championship, it’s tough and very competitive so it’s a great place to learn.

“TCR obviously has a really good pedigree and Lee [Brookes – TCR team principal] is passionate about winning. It should be a great year and I really am looking forward to it, especially with such a great team behind me.”

Having won his first title in 2009 in Formula 6, Wooder soon came to prominence in 2010 in the Super 1 Cadet series and ABkC National Open where he was Vice-Champion in both. In 2012, he was Vice-Champion in the Kartmasters GP and went on to claim European International Open success a year later. Current ABkC National Open Karting Champion Luke Wooder is Dave’s younger brother.

Commenting on his latest signing, TCR boss Lee Brookes added: “We’re over the moon to have Dave in the team alongside Matt [Chapman] and Cameron [Roberts], it’s a fantastic young line-up. The first year in any championship is always a big challenge, especially your first year in cars, but Dave has a fantastic record of success from karting so I’m sure he’ll be on the pace pretty quickly.”

Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent, Wooder’s local track, will host the first two races of the Ginetta Junior Championship season on 4th/5th April.
