Fraser Robertson is to graduate into a Ginetta G55 GT4 car for 2015 after confirming his return to the British Touring Car Championship support series as part of the newly announced Am class.
The 52 year old racer from Brompton on Swale joined the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup for a one-off appearance at Croft Circuit in 2014, before contesting the Silverstone and Brands Hatch meetings in his Ginetta G50 Cup car.
With the introduction of the Pro and Am format for the 2015 championship, Robertson swapped his Ginetta G50 for a Ginetta G55 GT4 in order to be eligible for the new category, which is designed to ensure racers with time-consuming workloads are not at a disadvantage to those career racers who can test and train throughout the week.
With class entry based on competitors previous racing experience and results, the Pro-Am format also provides an interim step for ambitious Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge and Ginetta Racing Drivers Club competitors looking for progression to the next level of motorsport, allowing for a sub-class with their own championship and prize-giving.
There is no denying the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup is a popular choice for many a driver, thanks to its inclusion on the televised British Touring Car Championship and its recognition by the BRDC as a championship which qualifies for membership.
