Company director Paul Oliphant from Cheshire has today announced plans to join his son Tom as part of the Ginetta family after signing up to the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club.
Oliphant hopes his motorsport initiation will be the first step towards one day entering a 24 hour race alongside his son, Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup and British GT Team LNT driver Tom Oliphant. The main focus for 2015 however, will be to remain competitive and take home some champagne and silverware along the way.
Paul Oliphant said; “I have watched Tom race for a number of years now, and it’s clear he loves the Ginetta, so I thought it was about time I gave it a go as I hope to one day partner him in an endurance event. The starter package is a very cost effective, easy and fun way to go racing, and my experience of Ginetta so far is they are very proactive and personable so the decision to join them was easy.”
Son Tom Oliphant added; “I'm really pleased that my dad will be taking up his own racing boots for 2015, having watched me for many years now it's about time he tries his hand at racing. It will take some getting used too, I'll have to buy my own stop watch so I can time him, but I think it will add a great family dynamic to the event. The GRDC provides the perfect stepping stone into motorsport for people of all ages and with a direct route up the motorsport ladder through the Ginetta family, the sky is the limit.”
The 53 year old isn’t a total stranger to the world of motorsport, having won a Renault Clio Speed Trial at Bedford Autodrome, as well as finishing second in a karting event at Glan-Y-Gors, however, it will be his first competitive season in cars.
Oliphant’s journey will begin with the delivery of his road legal Ginetta G40 Club Car, before he enjoys a number of track days with tuition prior to sitting his ARDS test. The Ginetta Racing Drivers Club supports four rounds of the British GT in 2015, visiting Rockingham (2/3 May), Silverstone (30/31 May), Brands Hatch (1/2 August) and Donington Park (12/13).
