Kyle Hornby is set to join the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship as the teenage racer from Cheshire looks to progress his motorsport career from karting to cars.
Former Super One Junior TKM karter Hornby enjoyed his first taste of Ginetta racing in October 2014 after he entered the Ginetta Junior Scholarship and met the team which will run his car in 2015, R & J Motorsport.
Hornby said;“The time feels right to take my motorsport career to the next level by graduating from a five and a half year karting career into sports cars. R & J Motorsport have a proven track record despite being a relatively new team to the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior paddock and I look forward to working with them.”
Attracted to the media coverage of the British Touring Car Championship support series, Hornby is looking to finish his debut season inside the championship top five and is hopeful of being on the podium on a number of occasions.
Kyle is managed by Graeme Glew's RDD management company, and Glew commented; "Kyle has been with us over a year now and his pace and determination has been impressive in karts and car testing, we have never been involved in the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship before, so we are looking forward to working within this new environment in what looks to be a very healthy and exciting Championship."
The KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship will feature a maximum capacity grid in 2015, with all driver entries for the forthcoming season having already been filled. Highlighting the importance of the series to young racers aged 14-17 as they embark on their sports car careers, 26 entries have been placed for the upcoming campaign; which seems set to be one of the most competitive in the history of the ever-popular championship.
