The 18 year old Automotive Engineering Student, Mohamed Elshimy has today confirmed his entry into British GT support series, the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, with new-to-the-championship team, SVG Motorsport.
The Loughborough race ace was vice-champion in the pre-2005 Classic Touring Cars Racing Club in a Peugeot 206 last season and set the fastest lap at Croft, Silverstone, Caldwell Park and Spa. In his nine year racing career, he has competed in Egypt, UAE, England and Belgium, all before the age of 18, so has high hopes for his debut in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge.
Elshimy said;“I would like to finish in the championship top three in my first season as well as develop and expand my knowledge as a racing driver. The Ginetta GT5 Challenge seems like a logical stepping stone towards become a professional GT driver, and it is also one of the best championships in terms of media coverage and the quality of driving present.”
In addition, Elshimy has combined his racing and studies with putting his knowledge into practice, modifying a racing car over three years with his school friends and has also organised several charity events while still in school.
The Ginetta GT5 Challenge offers a unique, low-cost opportunity to race in a single make racing championship whilst still being a part of a prestigious support package. For more information or to book onto a test day, click here.
