Financial Advisor Colin Plumb is set to tick ‘become a racing driver’ off his bucket list in 2015, after signing up to get his racing licence as part of the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club.
The 52 year old from Hampshire has long-since looked to compete in circuit racing but previously struggled to find the time to cover off all the incidentals involved in getting on track. However, the hand held approach to racing offered by the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club provided the ideal solution.
Plumb said;“Track racing has been on my ‘to-do’ list for a while, but it’s hard to find the time when you have a career to manage at the same time. When I heard about the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club in various motoring publications I was tempted by the idea of all the hard work being done for me.”
Having no prior track day experience, Plumb is looking forward to ‘learning on the job’ alongside his fellow novice drivers, and having plenty of fun as he hones his motorsport skills behind the wheel of his very own road legal racing car.
Along with his fellow Ginetta Racing Drivers Club members, Plumb will enjoy two tutored track days with Ginetta prior to the start of the season, following which Ginetta will arrange his ARDS test and once passed, will complete his transformation into a Ginetta racing driver.
He continued; “For year one, the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club has just four races, which means you don’t have to commit a huge amount of time and if you get hooked, then so be it – it’s onto GRDC+. I also like the idea that you can use the car for other events such as hillclimbs and sprint races as well as on the road as an everyday car. Not only that, but I like the company, they are friendly, very professional and are making track racing accessible to novices.”
Created exclusively for newcomers to the sport, the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club roars into action at Rockingham Motor Speedway on 2/3 May. Only five places on the 2015 grid remain for anyone else looking to gain their race licence, more information can be found at ginetta.com/grdc.
